Final Major Project. Developmental Work, Research and Final Piece. Trimester 2. Third Year. Virtual Experience ‘Finding Equilibrium’.

The blog will be separated into four sections depicting the development process of the ‘Final Major Project’. The four sections will be labelled ‘Defining’ (Creating Proposal), ‘Planning’ (Research and Fleshing out of Final Major Project), ‘Executing’ (Creating Final Major Project) and ‘Closing’ (Finished Final Major Project with Final Thoughts). This idea was conceived after participating in a Teams Meeting on Wednesday 20th January 2021 when Tina (Main Tutor) was discussing the topic of ‘Project Management’.

DEFINING:

The Word Document that can be seen below depicts the comments I made on a few of my peers ‘Final Major Project Proposals’ which are posted with the ‘Slack’ app recommended by Tina (Main Tutor) to encourage group collaboration during this period of producing out individual Final Major Projects:

The Word Document linked below depicts the final edited proposal before the beginning of the Second Trimester:

Screenshots below showcase replies to the comments I made to the said peers proposals on Tuesday 19th January 2021 alongside replies to my own Final Major Project Proposal (Said comments are highlighted):

The PowerPoint Presentation linked below showcases the initial development performed before the final written proposal for the final major project which should be seen linked earlier in this blog:

PLANNING:

The word document that can be seen linked below showcases the initial research performed before making the final decision on what form the final major project will take with added comments from myself discussing the research I performed. Research was performed on Sunday 24th January 2021:

Screenshots below showcase feedback, notes and discussions I had with fellow peer Fabiano Tavares within the Slack App. From now on I’ll document the Slack app discussions in a PowerPoint Presentation which will be placed within this blog to save space and time for main work produced for the Final Major Project:

The link below expands on the PowerPoint Presentation that collects all of the interactions on the ‘Slack App’ that depict both the ‘Planning’, ‘Executing’ and ‘Closing’ sections of blog:

Word Document linked below expands on further Research performed after talking to Emily Godden in relation to further fleshing out ideas which lead to discussions about Spoke (3D Environments) and Hubs (Social VR). Several links were kindly provided by Emily for me to have a look through which lead to me developing the ‘8 Chakra Idea’:

The word document that can be seen below expands on the further research in the seven to eight chakras found within the body alongside sites dedicated to ‘Mozilla Hubs’ provided both by Emily Godden and myself. The ‘Mozilla Hubs’ sites will prove to be useful as development for the Mozilla Hub Custom Exhibit further progresses:

The link below redirects to the ‘Photogrammetry iPhone App’ research I performed after having another conversation with Emily bringing up the possibilities of creating original 3D models for Mozilla Hubs Custom Exhibit depending on how much time there is left to produce the Final Major Project:

Although the Word Document below isn’t directly linked to the Final Major Project, it does depict a Questionnaire that myself and several other peers had to fill out for the Microsoft Teams Meeting with ‘Interior Design’ students within the university. This was set up so both the Digital Media and Interior Design courses can collaborate with one another in producing a potential exhibition piece despite the then current circumstances with the Covid-19 Lockdown at the time this was written:

The PowerPoint Presentation linked below showcase the initial experimentation performed on SculptFab before being transferred to SketchFab. This was done to see if original 3D models can be created and placed on Mozilla Hubs. Despite the experimentation it became clear that it would be expensive to create 3D Models and transfer them to Mozilla with the cost of upgrading the SketchFab being up to 7 euros (6.06 pound sterling) for one month. I might still produce 3D models but its all down to time and whether its important or not as the VR Spheres are the most important at the time this paragraph was written (27/02/21):

The Word Document that can be seen linked below redirects to the research I performed from between Friday 12th February 2021 to Saturday 28th February 2021:

The PowerPoint Presentation that can be seen below expands upon the initial rendered experimentation with the ‘Cinema 4D Lite’ program found within After Effects. The embedded YouTube video linked below the PowerPoint Presentation expands on upon the models animation despite not being rendered due to the export tool being unavailable:

The Unlisted YouTube video linked below depicts the first proper custom room exhibit I produced within Mozilla Hubs/Spoke, depicting how 360 Images and Videos can be incorporated into the digital environment (07/03/21):

The Unlisted YouTube Video linked below redirects to the second custom exhibit I produced within Mozilla Spoke/Hubs. Unlike the first custom exhibit this variation will inspire the final version of the major project when it is further executed during the last few weeks of this trimester. Excuse the background noise present in video as it wasn’t edited on Adobe Premier Pro (12/03/21):

The Unlisted YouTube Video linked below redirects to the third custom exhibit I produced within Mozilla Spoke/Hubs. After publishing the room it became clear that was difficulties uploading certain parts of the exhibit due to the amount of information that fluctuated between yellow and red, as a result I plan to create four separate rooms that have links that redirect to each other after talking talking to Emily during the Teams Meeting on Wednesday 17th March 2021.

At the time of writing this paragraph I plan to further look into producing 3D models which will limit the chances of existing models on Mozilla Hubs being shut down as well as increase the possibility of gaining a higher grade due to creating original 3d Models for this digital exhibition. (19/03/21):

The three unlisted YouTube videos linked below expand upon the original animations produced on After Effects which were transferred to the third custom room as presented in the walkthrough video linked above. Despite how well the initial animations turned out, it became clear that tweaks needed to be made to them so they appear in a better presentation than they did in the walkthrough video for the third room exhibit referred earlier in this blog. (15/03/21)

The three Unlisted YouTube Videos depicted below expand on the three animations tweaked with the ‘VR Converter’ effect. After reapplying this effect to the original animations it has created a better presentation than what seen beforehand. The method of producing VR 360 Animations which is expanded upon in the Sketchbook Pages will be applied for the final custom exhibit on Mozilla Hubs (17/03/21):

The next few Unlisted YouTube Videos linked below expand on the ‘Kaleidoscope Experimental Animations’ I produced within Adobe After Effects which were later incorporated into Mozilla Hubs custom rooms. This style of animation will be further refined for the final exhibit of ‘Finding Equilibrium‘ (08/04/21):

The Word Document linked below further expands on Harvard Referenced Research performed in animations for Adobe After Effects and exploring the medium of 3D photo scanning model development (The chosen program being ‘Agisoft Professional Metashape’). (08/04/21):

Links that lead to free access to the Four Custom Exhibits produced at the time this paragraph was written (as of 08/04/21) can be accessed within the Word Document linked below:

Screens Shots of the three models produced within ‘Agisoft Professional Metashape’ can be seen within the PowerPoint Presentation linked below (08/04/21):

The PowerPoint presentation below expands on the Potential locations for Insta36 Camera footage/photo and photogrammetry/capture: 3d scan everything/sony 3d creator/scann3d/scandy pro. (17/03/21):

The PowerPoint Presentation below expands upon the ‘Meshroom’ experimentation I performed in trying to create and original 3D model from multiple photos of one object. Despite this I don’t plan to further refine this for the Mozilla Hubs Custom Exhibit as explained within the PowerPoint Presentation below:

The Word Document that is linked below further expands upon Harvard Referenced researched performed for this project from Sunday 28th February 2021 to Saturday 27th March 2021:

The Unlisted YouTube video that can be seen below expands on the screen recording of the ‘Second Custom Mozilla Hubs Exhibit’ I produced incorporating the Kaleidoscope Animations seen earlier within this blog post. This method of linking multiple rooms together with links will be present in the final exhibition of ‘Finding Equilibrium’. (08/04/21):

Another Experimental Animation was produced on After Effects including a different method kaleidoscope animation alongside original flower designs produced within Adobe Illustrator (Animated Space background seen earlier in this blog was also incorporated). This has proven to be successful like previous experimentations with animations and 3D modelling present within this blog. (08/04/21):

Expansion on Kaleidoscope animation technique seen in the ‘Experimental Mandala Flower Animation’ video above. This will not be presented as is shown in the videos below but it is considered for further moving flower animations if need be. (08/04/21):

The next four Unlisted YouTube videos expand upon the model experimentation before and after watching tutorials found on LYNDA.com. This process of photo scanning modelling will be utilised for the final exhibition within Mozilla Hubs. The final models will be exported to Mozilla Hubs as a ‘glb.file’ and a ‘JPEG/PNG/TIFF’ file of the texture (compiling detail from the original photos used for the initial scanning) would overlay the basic model frame. (08/04/21):

The various Lotus Flower and Graphic Designs produced within Adobe Illustrator (present in the Fourth Mozilla Hubs Room with 3D Photo scanned Models) can be seen within the PowerPoint Presentation Document linked below with added screenshots of the FX added to the individual designs. (09/04/21):

Another PowerPoint Presentation was produced showing further refined designs which are included in the final virtual experience with the chosen designs seen below the link in a small gallery (14/05/21):

The screen recording depicted below showcases the ‘Fourth Room’ I produced within Mozilla Hubs with the three models produced within the ‘Agisoft Professional Metashape’ program alongside the ‘Experimental Mandala Flower Animation’ seen earlier within this blog post. At the time this paragraph is written I aim to make the rooms and exhibit as a whole less cluttered and simply in design, linking to the old saying ‘Less is More’, which I feel will benefit the final exhibit once the Final Major Project is completed. (09/04/21):

The two Unlisted YouTube Links depict the ‘Fifth Experimental Exhibit’ and three versions of the First Chakra (Earth/Heart) Room created within Mozilla Hubs showcasing the further refinement of the of the rooms presentation alongside the incorporation of the 3D models (29/04/21):

The following four screen recordings that can be seen below depict the final 3D models within the Agisoft Professional Program. The ‘Tree Stump’, ‘Rock’ and ‘360 Landscape 2’ will be considered for the final exhibit within Mozilla Hubs (29/04/21):

After talking Tina via Microsoft Teams she recommended that Animation should be long and slower in presentation, thus the ‘Clouds, ‘Space’ and ‘Kaleidoscope’ animations seen below this paragraph depict these added tweaks while being converted in VR presentation. Extra notes from that conversation can be seen within the Sketchbook PowerPoint Presentation within this blog post (29/04/21):

The extra animation linked below is a combination of both the ‘Space’ and ‘Kaleidoscope’ Animations for the Third Eye (Sixth Chakra) Room. This like the ‘Experimental Mandala Flower Animation’ was produced out of experimentation to see how it could possibly look when its eventually executed within Mozilla Hubs at the time this paragraph was written (29/04/21):

Following three colour pallets influenced the colour scheme of the three chakra rooms. Root (Red), Heart (Green) and the Third Eye (Purple). Harvard Referencing for coloured images linked in one of the word documents within this blog (14/05/21):

The three Unlisted YouTube videos showcase the videos considered for the rooms in relation to displaying the information for the composers music and the chakra the room represents. Despite creating the animations it became apparent that original 75% Transparent PNG Files were better at displaying the information than the videos did.

Four final versions of the PNG Files can be seen below the Unlisted YouTube videos after receiving feedback from both the Slack app and the scheduled Teams Meeting session which are recorded in their respective PowerPoints dedicated to Slack and the Sketchbook Pages. Original designs of PNG Files seen in Slack App PowerPoint Presentation (14/05/21):

The next few Unlisted YouTube videos display the further refined animations produced on Adobe After Effects which will be present in the final Virtual Experience ‘Finding Equilibrium’ after receiving feedback from peers/tutors via the Slack app and scheduled meetings through Microsoft Teams (14/05/21):

The link below expands on the PowerPoint Presentation that collects all of the interactions on the ‘Sketchbook Pages’ that depict both the ‘Planning’, ‘Executing’ and ‘Closing’ sections of blog (14/05/21):

The link below expands on the PowerPoint Presentation that collects all of the interactions on the ‘Email Exchanges’ that depict both the ‘Planning’, ‘Executing’ and ‘Closing’ sections of blog. There aren’t many slides due to privacy with individuals like the composer ‘John Wilson’ alongside the change in not trying to interact with Meditation/Mindfulness groups (14/05/21):

The Word Document linked below this paragraph expand upon the Initial Research performed before encountering the tutorials displayed within ‘LinkedIn Learning’ which I used instead of the sources Harvard Referenced below (17/05/21):

Word Document linked below expand upon the information I put within a StarNow Callout which led to finding the composer John Wilson whose music will be used for the final Virtual Experience ‘Finding Equilibrium’ (15/05/21):

Written notes depicting the initial development of the PNG Information files which’ll be placed within their respective chakra rooms. Further research into the three chosen chakras alongside a couple of John Wilsons websites are also Harvard Referenced within the Word Document linked below:

Links to sites listing how to cancel subscriptions both ‘Agisoft Professional Metashape’ and ‘LYNDA Tutorial’ alongside further research in Mozilla Hubs, Royalty Free Music and the New Designers Award Show within the Word Document placed below this paragraph:

After performing a mind map of initial names for the Custom Exhibit in Mozilla Hubs, which can be seen in the Slack App PowerPoint Presentation, the final name which will be applied for the final custom exhibit will be ‘FINDING EQUILIBRIUM‘. The reason for this is it felt more in keeping in what I written in the Final Major Project Proposal alongside nicely fitting with the concept of finding balance between emotions and thoughts opposite the three chosen chakras at the time this paragraph was written. (04/03/21).

In the case of Kaleidoscope VR Animations not being uploaded the ‘Root Chakra’ and ‘The Third Eye Chakra’ respectively, both of the said animations are placed below this paragraph to showcase what they both would’ve looked like if they working and surrounded the environments they’re supposed to encompass (16/05/21):

‘Root Chakra’ Animation:

‘The Third Eye’ Animation:

CLOSING (FINAL WORK/THOUGHTS):

Positives that are prevalent throughout the developmental stages of the Final Major Project and the  Virtual Experience ‘Finding Equilibrium’ itself mainly draws upon the how well the said virtual experience has come together despite being unique in the sense of approaching a medium that is relatively new through the program of Mozilla Hubs.

A lot of the assets that are produced for this Virtual Experience utilise older skills from Adobe Programs to ‘Photogrammetry’ experimentation with a 3D modelling program called ‘Profesional Agisoft Metashape’ really gives the Final Major Project stand out from the other pieces of work I produced during the three years studying the Digital Media Production degree course.

Further networking was also achieved in the interactions with the composer John Wilson who kindly gave his free time in producing three new chakra music suites for my virtual experience, adding to the consistent good interactions I’ve had with creatives in a working environment after finding them on the StarNow website since October 2019.

The negatives that did appear throughout the development of the Virtual Experience came in the form of spending too much time trying to flesh out the experience itself while most of that time should’ve been allocated to the construction of the experience itself via work through the Adobe Programs and the ‘Profesional Agisoft Metashape’ program.

It also became apparent after completing the Virtual Experience that I should’ve used the platform of ‘LinkedIn Learning’ a lot more which would’ve provided all the resources and research needed for the experience and its assets which was wasted in looking at third party sources on the internet which are not nearly as professional or insightful as the tutorials found within ‘LinkedIn Learning’.

Improvements which will be considered if I am tasked with creating another Virtual Experience in the same vein as ‘Finding Equilibrium’ is to spend less time on planning and more time in putting together the experience alongside pushing forward the original aim of interacting with other groups that link to the Virtual Experience’s target audience which wasn’t the case for ‘Finding Equilibrium’  due to placing priority on the work itself as well as there being no need to gain an audience as the work will be displayed within the university website ‘The Present Award Ceremony’ at the time these written closing thoughts were written.

Final Thoughts I have on the Final Major Project as a whole is I felt it went very well considering the slow start due to the initial planning stages and working out how to create an effective virtual experience within the program of Mozilla Hubs.

As was addressed in the improvements paragraph a lot more would’ve been produced if programs like ‘Professional Agisoft Metashape’ and the final creative decisions were made earlier on rather than in the second half of the developmental process.

Despite this it was good further developing my skills within the following Adobe Programs of Illustrator, After Effects and InDesign alongside further knowledge into the practise of Mindfulness and the seven chakras of the body which links directly to the regular mindfulness practice I perform in my own time, thus why it was the main subject present within the Final Major Project.
